The Arvigo Techniques of Maya Abdominal Therapy are practiced and taught by Dr. Rosita Arvigo, D.N. , who has spent the last thirty years studying and teaching Mayan medicine. Maya Abdominal Therapy is a self-care practice supported by professional instruction, and is an integral part of Mayan medicine. The therapy is performed over clothing and greatly assists in the release of trauma after accidents, childbirth or illness, as well as resetting the position of the uterus in the female.
Dr. Rosita Arvigo, D.N, left with Resplendent Owner Yvonne Tuchscher
The Arvigo Techniques of Maya Abdominal Therapy address the position and health of the pelvic and abdominal organs. The Arvigo treatments assist with a number of syptoms for both men and women. Symptoms for women include pelvic floor disorders, painful periods and ovulation, bladder or yeast infections and ovarian cysts. For men, Arvigo massage can help with painful urination, prostatitis and impotence. The work is best known for the correction of the prolapsed, fallen or tipped uterus, and for the prevention and treatment of benign prostate enlargement in men.
Below is a common list of symptoms that are improved by incorporating this holistic modality into ones health care:
The History of Arvigo Techniques of Maya Abdominal Therapy (ATMAT)
Arvigo massage is a holistic approach to healthcare that involves massage, herbology, naprapathy and spiritual healing. These techniques were brought together by Dr. Rosita Arvigo who believes that her natural healing techniques can treat specific issues to promote optimial health.
Dr. Rosita Arvigo learned these techniques from her own mentor, Don Elijio Panti, a Mayan Shaman from the country of Belize who believed that a woman's center is her uterus. Furthermore, Panti believed that if a woman's uterus was not in balance, than her entire body will be out of balance. Panti passed away in 1996 at the age of 103, but not before training Dr. Arvigo in the many techniques of Maya Abdominal Therapy that she teaches today.

What to Expect on your first visit
It is known that the position of a woman's uterus can cause numerous pathologies within a woman's body. Depending on where the uterus is displaced, it can cause some of the issues mentioned above along with the following:
- An examination of your personal history & any health care needs that you are currently addressing.
- Consultation of whether there have been any recent lifestyle changes.
- An assessment of your internal organs positions and whether anything has moved or is out of place.
- Massage therapy using the techniques of the Arvigo therapy that are focused on improving the alignment of the pelvic & abdominal organs as well as increasing the flow and energy of the abdominal area.
- Additionally, we may incorporate herbal remedies to enhance or treat any conditions that you may be experiencing and to enhance the effects of the Arvigo treatments
The positions of a woman's uterus can cause numerous issues, both physical and emotional, within a woman's body.
Normally, the uterus is slightly above and adjacent to the bladder, right in the center of the pelvis and above the pubic bone. Depending on the position, and how the uterus is displaced, it can cause some of the issues mentioned above along with the syptoms mentioned below:
Symptoms For Women:
- Painful periods and ovulation
- Irregular menstrual cycles and ovulation
- Bladder or yeast infections
- Miscarriages, difficult pregnancies
- Painful Urination
- Peri menopause, menopausal symptoms
- PMS/Depression with menstruation
- Ovarian cysts
- Uterine fibroids
- Abnormal uterine bleeding
- Enhances Pregnancy, aids in labor and delivery
Arvigo Massage Benefits For Women:
Normally the uterus leans slightly over the bladder in the center of the pelvis, about one and a half inches above the pubic bone. It is held in this position by muscles, the vaginal wall and ligaments that attach it to the back, front, and sides of the pelvis. Uterine ligaments are made to stretch to accommodate a growing fetus inside and to move freely when the bladder or bowel is full. The ligaments and muscles can weaken and loosen, causing the uterus to fall downward, forward, backward or to either side.
A uterus in any of these positions is called tilted or displaced. Modern medicine has little or nothing to offer women with this problem. Options may include using the birth control pill, muscle relaxants, or surgery and women are generally told, "your uterus is tipped, but that is normal and don't worry about it." Yet women have a laundry list of physical and emotional symptoms that can be addressed and prevented with these simple, noninvasive massage techniques. When reproductive organs shift, they can constrict normal flow of blood and lymph, and disrupt nerve connections. Just a few extra ounces sitting on blood and lymph vessels can cause havoc throughout the different systems in the body. By shifting the uterus back into place, homeostasis, or the natural balance of the body, is restored in the pelvic area and the surrounding organs. Toxins are flushed and nutrients that help to tone tissue and balance hormones are restored to normal order. This is essential for healthy periods, pregnancy, labor, and delivery.
Old adhesions/scars from invasive treatments such as surgery to the pelvic and abdominal area, including fibroid tumors, endometriosis, and cesarean delivery are diminished when addressed by uterine massage. In addition, digestion, urinary and bladder problems can be helped.

Midwives and healers of Central America agree that most “female troubles” are caused by the wandering womb. Normally the uterus leans slightly over the bladder in the center of the pelvis, about one and a half inches above the pubic bone. It is held in this position by muscles, the vaginal wall and ligaments that attach it to the back, front, and sides of the pelvis. Uterine ligaments are made to accommodate a growing fetus and to move freely when the bladder or bowel is full. The ligaments and muscles can weaken and loosen, causing the uterus to fall downward, forward, backward or to either side. A uterus in any of these positions is referred to as “tipped.”
"The uterus is the women's center. If her uterus is not in proper position and in good health, nothing in her life will be right. She will be as out of balance as her uterus."
-Don Elijio Panti
